Digesting the Roe v. Wade Verdict: Intersectional Damage

We are still processing our disappointment & anger over the overturning of Roe v. Wade, which guaranteed the right to abortions. This is not just about reproductive rights– it is a crucial time in history & we must not stop talking about it.

Our platforms, our voices, are needed. 

Time and again, we see Supreme Court decisions disrupt marginalized groups of people the most. For many of us, freedom over our bodies has never really been a promise in the first place. Minorities are already vulnerable to unjust healthcare practices, and this decision will only amplify the discrimination. Systemic neglect is nothing new to disenfranchised communities, but this massive step backwards is infuriating nonetheless. 

We want to make it clear that we fully advocate for the right to bodily autonomy and for access to safe abortion resources for all. We stand in solidarity with the Reproductive Justice movement, which was founded in 1994 by twelve Black women in Chicago (source 1, source 2). As California residents, we feel it is our responsibility to provide resources that go beyond our local community to make it easier for the most vulnerable populations to seek support.

As far as what Treehouse will be doing, we are proudly partnering with Campesina Womb Justice for our Sowing Seeds for Change initiative. Campesina Womb Justice is a grass roots mutual aid organization for womb care for indigenous campesinas in Awaswas Ohlone Territory. We will be fundraising for them throughout August and September, and stand in full support of their mission.
