Sean Mohoot is a photographer that specializes in Victorian era photography, dating back to the early 1850’s. This alternative process, known as “wet plate collodion” involves coating a metal plate with a light sensative emulsion, making an exposure with a bellows camera, and developing the image immediately in a portable dark room. The result is a striking direct positive image that consists of pure silver against the dark enamel of a metal plate. These images were popular up until the late 1800’s, when more practical processes were invented.
Sean is based in Santa Cruz, CA and shoots tintypes for a living; whether doing pop-ups, in his studio, house calls, or weddings, he spends a lot of time traveling with his photographic equipment.
